Recorded and mixed by Jeremy Sherrer (Modest Mouse, The Shins) at The Dandy Warhols’ Odditorium, this album saw the band supporting acts such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Psychedelic Furs, The Dandy Warhols, and playing The Black Angels initial two Levitation festivals along with the likes of The Warlocks and A Place To Bury Strangers.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eChildhood friends Jsun Atoms (The Bella Low, Daydream Machine, Pete International Airport) and Brett Kron (guitar) had been involved in the Portland music scene since the mid-90s and had always talked about playing together, but it wasn’t until 2003 that they seriously decided to start a band. Finding a cross-national group of transplanted musicians – Matt Moore (guitars, vocals, accordion, harp) and Bob Graham Mild (Souvenir Driver, Daydream Machine, drums), Tristan Evans (bass, vocals) all from different parts of Missouri and Sarah Jane (The Out Crowd, keys, vocals, tambourine) from San Francisco – the six-piece soon began making a name for itself in the Northwest. On \"Babylon Song\" Savage points political commentary using imagery and lore from Rastafarian culture through references to Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II via seering 60's style garage rock. Eventually everything stabilized and a strange calmness came over the cabin. That’s when Eric Oppitz (bass, organ) noticed how beautiful the sun appeared over the Greek horizon. “It was beautiful and blissful,” he said, recalling the moment. “There was this strong uneasiness; we didn’t know if we were going to land safely or plummet into the ocean.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWritten and recorded shortly after that fateful flight, Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor’s new full length, Lavender Blood, feeds on that emotion to deliver a confounding blend of blissfulness and terror. Lavender Blood is SOYSV’s fourth release marking a slight departure from its conceptual predecessor, Desert Brain. The new album was recorded in a remote lodge nestled in the woods of northern Michigan where the band could escape back into that mindset that initially inspired the record. While working there they recorded what they felt was a most apt tune for that moment back in Spring 2020 – A cover of Joy Divisions – ‘Isolation’ – It was epic and the reaction they got confirmed it. It re-energised The Janitors and in doing so the creative juices flowed and a though kicked in - that the next week they just start writing new songs, but with the same dogmatic rules, one night of recording, one week of mixing and then it's done - A challenge of just letting the creativity flow but then leaving the song as a testament to that moment. These six songs are the product, All of it The Janitors came up with on the spot, all ideas were welcome as improvisations leads to new and far-out places, but also the occasional wrong note, lyrics reflecting the strange days we were witnessing and how they affected us, the people we love and the world.
