Still Adventures, the first album from Nate Wey and the Soft Colors, pulls from a psychedelic dream-pop chest filled with propulsive Velvet Underground guitar riffs, introspective lyrics that wouldn’t sound out of place on a PJ Harvey record, and scenes from a lost David Lynch film.
Wey's songs capture the daze and confusion that came as the Covid shut-down lifted – with unexpected flashes of country twang that make this collection of songs stand out from Wey’s previous albums with Souvenir Driver.
Still Adventures was recorded at Trench Studios with Gregg Williams (co-producer of the Dandy Warhols’ 13 Tales of Urban Bohemia, engineer for Blitzen Trapper, and long-time drummer for Sheryl Crow). It features contributions from a dynamic roster of local musicians, including Sarah Nienaber (Shady Cove, Blue Tomorrows), Tobias Berblinger (Kassi Valazza, Roselit Bone), and Kyle Cregan (Smile Pile, James Jones and the Chupacabras).
