Cosmic Room 99 is a psych band formed at the tail end of 2022 in Treviso, Italy. The group consists of Antonio Angeli (vocals/drums) and Matteo Scarpa (vocals/bass), both members of Kill Your Boyfriend, and Diego Menegaldo (vocals/guitar), a former guitarist of New Candys.

The musical foundations of the band were laid during lockdown, as the members sought refuge from the alienating routine gathering in a small home recording studio. This environment allowed them to exchange ideas, driven by a primordial need to share and a desire to return to performing in dark, crowded, sweaty clubs.

This period of isolation also provided an opportunity to reflect on life's true priorities and societal issues, revealing a tendency to accept even the worst aspects of society as the norm. This realization influenced the band's sound and lyrical themes, exploring disillusionment with a dystopian society and the true nature of human behaviour.

The band’s name, "Cosmic Room 99," was inspired by a documentary called "The Cosmic Room," which tells the story of NATO employee Bob Cohen accidentally discovering a top-secret plan to annihilate part of the world's population to maintain Earth's sustainability. The number 99 in numerology represents someone who uses their gifts to make the world a better place, encapsulating the band's ethos.

Musically, Cosmic Room 99 draws influences from a diverse range of sources, including the obsessive rhythms of The Velvet Underground, the dreamy psychedelia of Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, the harmonies of The Beach Boys’ "Pet Sounds," the sharp feedback of The Jesus and Mary Chain, the austere wave of Joy Division, and the deep, abysmal worlds of Bauhaus, all linked by a punk attitude.

The album was recorded primarily in their home studio in Treviso, where band members played various instruments, creating a collaborative and cohesive work. To add warmth to their sound, they recorded vocals and analog drums and mixed the songs at Overdrive Studio in Treviso, with producer and sound engineer Edoardo "Dodi" Pellizzari. Final mastering was done by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room in Chicago, USA, adding the finishing touch to their music.
